District Attorney Sam Sutter says there's a lot of positive provisions in the state's new, comprehensive gun violence bill passed by the Legislature.

Sutter says the bill takes steps to enhance mental health background checks on gun buyers....

Sutter also approves of two new statutes created for non-fatal shooting cases.

People accused of non-fatal shootings can be charged with assault and battery by means of a firearm and could  be sentenced up to 20 years in state prison.

Those convicted of attempted assault and battery by means of a firearm can be sentenced up to 15 years in state prison.
