A friendlier New Bedford is the goal of a Community Action Plan signed by local organization members Wednesday.

Mayor Jon Mitchell, representatives of the NAACP, the Puerto Rican and Latin American Culture Committee, the Human Relations Commission, and members of the faith community agreed to improve the statues of various social issues outlined in the document over the next five years.

Marci Pina-Christian of the Human Relations Commission tells WBSM News one of those initiatives is to include a member from the Mayan community on the Commission.

The groups have agreed to make outreach efforts in order to reduce the city's 70% youth unemployment rate, and improve the relationship between youth and the police department.
