Campus Police at Bristol Community College in Fall River will be allowed to carry firearms as soon as next spring, thanks to a vote by the college’s Board of Trustees.

According to the Herald News, campus police officers will recieve firearm safety training from the Fall River Police Department, and also undergo psychiatric evaluations.

BCC Vice President of Administration and Finance Steven Kenyon said Police could be carrying firearms as soon as April. He also assured area residents  that the campus would maintain its open atmosphere.

About 85-percent of the campus supported the move to arm Campus Police at a recent community forum, according to BCC President John Sbrega.
