Wounded Yarmouth Police Dog Doing Well After Surgery
WEST YARMOUTH, Mass. (AP) - Police canine Nero is recovering following being injured during a shooting that killed his handler.
The Yarmouth Police Department posted a photo of Nero on Sunday morning, reporting that the 28-month-old Belgian Malinois is "back on his feet" following a Friday surgery.
A photo of Nero was posted , showing him bandaged and with a tube inserted into his torso and dubbing him "OUR FOUR-LEGGED HERO!"
Nero was shot in the head and neck area during the Marstons Mills shooting that claimed the life of Yarmouth police officer Sean Gannon on Thursday.
The alleged shooter, Thomas Latanowich, is being held without bail following an arraignment in Barnstable District court. An attorney for Latanowich has not been identified.
Nero is certified in tracking and evidence recovery.
