Not all heroes wear capes.

Some drive a 2022 Chevrolet Malibu while driving down country backroads blasting "Down With the Sickness," with two eyes on the road just in case a woodland creature is in desperate need for a helping hand.

On a quiet morning in Westport around 11 a.m., resident Glen Wordell was driving down Forsythia Lane near Trout Pond when something strange caught his eye: a frantic squirrel with its head lodged deep inside an empty raspberry-flavored Yoplait yogurt cup.

A Squirrel in Trouble

Rather than keep driving, Wordell did something extraordinary. He pulled over, stepped out of his vehicle, and cautiously approached the distressed animal. As if sensing help had arrived, the squirrel stopped moving and waited.

"It was almost like it knew I was there to help," Wordell said. “It froze when I got close, like it was surrendering.”

A Gentle Rescue with Big Impact

Wordell gently petted the squirrel’s back a few times to calm it down, then carefully removed the yogurt cup from its head. Within seconds, the squirrel bolted off into the woods – no doubt a little confused, but finally free.

“I don’t know how long it had been stuck like that, but it was struggling,” Wordell said. “I just couldn’t leave it like that. I was also expecting the little bugger to bite me, but it was good and simply ran away."

A Small Act, A Big Reminder

In a world where people often pass by without looking twice, Wordell’s small act of kindness became a big moment of heart. The story serves as a sweet (and slightly fruity) reminder that sometimes, even a squirrel with a yogurt cup on its head just needs a little help from a human friend.
