Westport High School sophomore Lily Veracka recently reached a major career milestone, scoring her 100th varsity soccer goal.

Veracka added five goals during the October 1 game to officially reach the century mark, an impressive accomplishment made even more remarkable by the fact that she is only a sophomore. She has been playing varsity soccer for Westport since seventh grade, making this her fourth season with the Wildcats.

Veracka joined The MGM Show to talk about the accomplishment, and when asked what it felt like as she started closing in on the milestone, she admitted there were definitely some nerves involved. “It felt really good and scary,” she said.

A Milestone Years in the Making

Most of Veracka’s goals have come during her high school years, meaning there is still plenty of time for the young striker to continue adding to her already impressive total. Her teammates celebrated with her on the field after the milestone goal, and the achievement was also announced during the game.

While individual accomplishments like 100 goals stand out, Veracka was quick to credit the team around her. She described this year’s Wildcats squad as a close group with a strong bond and solid leadership from the coaches and captains. Veracka primarily plays striker but said she would also be comfortable playing on the wing.
