MATTAPOISETT — A Wareham man faces multiple charges after breaking into a Mattapoisett home and stealing several items.

In a post to the department’s official Facebook page, Mattapoisett Police say that a report came in approximately 1:17 p.m. Wednesday from a homeowner who had arrived home and was confronted by a person who had broken into the residence. The suspect immediately fled with several items, running south on Brandt Island Road.

Mattapoisett Police, along with the assistance of the Fairhaven Police Department, set up a secure perimeter around the area. A short time later, Detective Craig LeBlanc observed a party matching the suspect’s description walking through the wood line off Brandt Island Road.

After a brief search, the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Maxx Phillips, of Wareham, was taken into custody.  He faces charges of breaking and entering into a dwelling house in the daytime to commit a felony, vandalism of property, and larceny over $1,200.

A search warrant was later executed on a residence in Mattapoisett connected to Phillips, and all of the stolen property was recovered.

The Plymouth County Sheriff’s K9-Unit and the Plymouth County Bureau of Investigation assisted with the Investigation and recovery of the stolen property.
