Students and teachers from Old Rochester Regional High School are presenting the second annual Fall Family Fun Day and Craft Market, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 24 at the school's Mattapoisett campus.

As the name suggests, it has activities planned for both young and old.

The event will benefit ORR's Early Childhood Education Program. Teacher Liz Kennedy visited Townsquare Sunday to give us a rundown.

Expanding the Annual Event: Moving to October and Adding a Craft Fair

"Last year we held the Fall Family Fun Day a little later, in November, and attracted about 120 people," Kennedy said. "This year, we decided to move it to October to get it closer to Halloween. We've also added a craft fair."

"All of the money raised will go directly to educating our students, so they can take field trips to other child care facilities and things like that," she said.

Event Details, Activities, and Vendor Information

There is no admission charge for adults to attend the Fall Family Fun Day and Craft Market, but here's the twist: children will be charged $5 to enjoy the activities, including pony rides, pumpkin decorating, apple tasting, face painting and much more.

Kennedy said the Craft Market is open to anyone and will feature more than 50 vendors selling nautical items, jewelry, baked goods and more. There will be several food vendors on hand as well.

Hands-On Career Training for ORR Early Childhood Students

More than 100 students are enrolled in Kennedy's Early Childhood Education Program at ORR. "Every year we seem to get bigger," she said. "Their end goal is to hopefully do something in the education field or with children. I have a lot of students interested in nursing, possibly becoming a pediatrician, social work, therapy, so this really opens the door for them to get the exposure to working with young children."

Kennedy said one of her favorite parts of the Fall Family Fun Day is that her Early Childhood students are directly involved in planning and running activities for the children and families who attend.
