Here's your chance to experience the Cape Cod Baseball League like never before. The Wareham Gatemen are currently looking for Bat Kids to join their team for the summer season.

What Is a Bat Kid?

As a Bat Kid, you get to take in the game from a unique perspective. "The atmosphere at a Gatemen game is electric," Bat Kid Coordinator Kim Nashold said. These players come from all around the country and they are usually the best in college baseball."

Duties and Responsibilities of a Bat Kid

When you're a Bat Kid, you're an important member of the team.

"During the game, the kids retrieve the bats after a player has batted, bring balls and water to the umpire and helps with equipment. They also collect foul balls that are hit behind the backstop," Nashold said.

"The parents are responsible for transportation for Bat Kids to and from the games, which can start as early as 4:30 p.m. or as late as 7 p.m., and Bat Kids are expected to stay the whole game they are scheduled for," Nashold said.

"We will work with a family's summer schedule if they have a vacation planned etc. but we do ask families to commit for the whole summer," Nashold said. "Some of our Bat Kids have been with the program for three to four years at this point and we always welcome new Bat Kids families."
