On Tuesday, about 30 stores at Wareham Crossing on Cranberry Highway were closed for several hours due to a failed electrical connector at a nearby Eversource substation.

According to South Coast Today.com, “the failed electrical connection was replaced within a half hour, but it had caused flickering and surging at the shopping plaza.”

Residents in West Wareham also reported the lights to flicker in their homes. Before noontime, 43 customers were reported to not have power based on an Eversource power outage map.

Firefighters and inspectors went in to inspect the stores, and the largest ones, Target, J.C. Penney, and Lowe’s, managed to keep their electrical service.

However, two buildings hosting about 30 smaller stores and restaurants were closed before noontime so the matter could be sorted out.

There were no signs of damage to the electrical devices in the stores as a result of the problem.

“Eversource and the building management company agreed that proper voltage had been established to the buildings.”
