NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — A portion of New Bedford Eversource customers will find themselves briefly without electricity tonight.

A scheduled power outage is set to take place sometime tonight in the city’s Near North End.

Those in a specific area should be advised about the impending outage, which is not expected to last long.

“Our lineworkers and remote electric system operators will be conducting emergency repairs this evening that require a scheduled power outage to complete their work safely,” Eversource spokesperson Kyle Costa said.

Costa said the outage will occur in the area of Church Street and Coffin Avenue, and that residents who would be affected were notified in advance.

According to an automated call that went out to residents in the affected area, the outage is scheduled to happen sometime between 7 p.m. and midnight. The message also said it could last up to two hours, but that probably won’t be the case.

“The power outage is expected to be very brief,” Costa said.
