
Thousands Lose Power in New Bedford as Crews Investigate Outage
UPDATE: Eversource sent an amended number of customers without power, saying the peak number of outages was actually 2,252. Also, power was restored to New Bedford High School at 1:51p.m.
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — Over 2,000 New Bedford Eversource customers lost power this morning, including New Bedford High School.
According to Eversource, the power outage began at about 11:30 a.m. and the cause is still unknown.
How Many Customers Lost Power?
“A section of our system in New Bedford experienced an outage affecting about 2,600 customers at its peak,” an Eversource spokesperson told WBSM. “Our crews are working to investigate the cause of the outage, isolate the issue and safely restore power as quickly as possible.”
The spokesperson said service has already been restored to roughly 1,400 customers and Eversource is “actively working to bring the remaining customers back online.”

When Will Power Be Fully Restored?
Although Eversource’s online outage map suggests a 2 p.m. restoration time for most of the affected areas, the spokesperson said there currently is no estimated time of restoration.
“Additional crews working in the area have been reassigned to support this restoration effort,” the spokesperson said.
