Two men arrested in connection with a fatal weekend shooting in New Bedford's South End were arraigned Monday in New Bedford District Court.

The Bristol County District Attorney's office said in a statement that 21-year-old Elito Mendes is charged with armed robbery and weapons counts; while 27-year-old Samir Baptista is charged as an accomplice.

The charges are related to the death of 31-year-old Sharone Stafford who was found shot at Winsor and Crapo Streets late Saturday night.  He was pronounced dead at St. Lukes Hospital.

Both suspects were arraigned Monday in District Court.  Baptista is being held without bail.  Mendes had bail set at $150,000. Their cases were continued to next month.

A spokesman for the D-A says the investigation is still extremely active and so the court has impounded police reports on the case.
