Truck Catches Fire Inside Former Beacon Lumber Garage
NEW BEDFORD — Minimal damage was reported after a truck erupted in flames in a garage at the former site of Beacon Lumber in New Bedford.
The New Bedford Fire Department reports in a Facebook post that firefighters responded to reports of a structure fire at 513 Church Street at approximately 9:25 p.m. on Tuesday.
Upon arrival, fire crews found a large dump truck had caught fire inside of a garage at the site, with its cab and engine fully involved in flames.
Two engines worked to extinguish the truck fire, while a ladder truck extinguished a small fire in the building's roof.
The fire was knocked down and the ceiling was cooled with water to protect the metal-supported roof. Firefighters ventilated the building, which houses Beacon Hardware and Dance Xtreme.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
