The Third Annual Tim’s Homerun 5K run and walk is set for Sunday, April 23, 2017.

According to South Coast Today.com, the town of Middleborough lost a great friend when Tim Harnett passed away unexpectedly in 2014. Harnett “dedicated his entire life to helping people, first as a social worker and then as a coach and mentor to the youth of Middleborough.”

While raising four children and being actively involved through their activities, Harnett began a coaching career that would span over 25 years. Coaching the youth of Middleborough was truly a passion for Harnett. Through his years, Harnett coached hundreds of kids and dozens of teams; some of which went on to play at the state level.

As a way of continuing Harnett’s legacy, the third and last Tim’s Homerun 5K run and walk will raise money to support the youth of our community. “In Tim’s vision, he believed everyone should have the opportunity to experience the values of being involved in sports and participating in school programs.”

Proceeds from the event during past two years have gone towards Middleborough High School Scholarships, MASC (Massachusetts Association of Student Councils) camp assistance for deserving MHS students, Middleborough Youth Basketball program, and Middleboro Little League.

The 5K will start and conclude at the Middleboro Little League complex, The Fields of Dreams, which Harnett was involved in designing the field.
