TAUNTON — A Taunton technical school was briefly ordered to shelter in place after Taunton police received what they believe may have been a hoax call about a barricaded suspect on Thursday morning.

Taunton police said in a statement that Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School was ordered to shelter in place temporarily "out of an abundance of caution."

There is no threat to the community at this time, according to police.

At around 9 a.m. Thursday, police received a call for a possible barricaded suspect in a Hart Street home.

Police said the caller reported that people in the home had been harmed.

Hart Street is also the location of the Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School, so police ordered the school to shelter while the scene was still active.

After police responded and established a perimeter around the home, they made contact with the homeowner and learned that no one was inside the house.

A search of the home did not turn up anyone inside or any signs of violence, police said.

School operations continued as normal during that time and the shelter order was lifted after officers cleared the scene, according to police.

Police said the call was found to be a hoax after discovering that it came from out of state.

The investigation is ongoing.
