The State Department of Fisheries, Wildlife and Environmental Law is sending $75,000 to the city's Harbor Development Commission, to prepare a plan on the future of the Port of New Bedford.

The grant was announced by State Senator Mark Montigny.  The New Bedford Democrat says the plan will make recommendations on what actions are needed to save jobs....

Montigny says while New Bedford continues to be the wealthiest fishing port in the nation, New Bedford's economy is changing.

He says the state is looking for recommendations on ways shore-side businesses can  remain viable and continue to provide employment.

It also wants to know what infrastructure the port will need to adapt to offshore wind development, increased shipping, and more tourists.
