Edward Anthes-Washburn says the future is bright for the Port of New Bedford.

Anthes-Washburn has spent the last 11 years working on the waterfront, the last six as Port Director. In February, he begins a new job with Crowley Maritime Corporation, a vessel management and energy solutions company headquartered in Florida.

Anthes-Washburn says his primary focus will be to expand the company's footprint in the Northeast.

The Port of New Bedford has often been described as the economic engine of the city's economy. That "engine" has been humming along in recent years with commercial development, shipping, commercial fishing and North Terminal expansion playing prominent roles.

During an interview this week on Townsquare Sunday, Anthes-Washburn provides a run-down on important projects and discusses the prospects of offshore wind development. The interview can be heard here.

Townsquare Sunday is a public affairs program heard every Sunday at 6 a.m. on 1420 WBSM. The program highlights individuals and organizations seeking to improve the quality of life in Greater New Bedford.
