St. Luke’s Doctor Accused of Paying 14-Year Old Boy for Sex
A doctor at St. Lukes Hospital has been charged with paying a 14-year old boy for sexual activity.
Multiple media outlets are reporting that 37-year old Sujan Kayastha, a hospitalist at St. Luke's Hospital, was arrested Wednesday at his home in Dartmouth after police searched the home.
Detectives found multiple mobile communication devices that contained child pornography as well as suspected narcotics.
Attleboro Police say Detective Joseph Daday began an investigation in December 2018 after receiving a report that an Attleboro boy had been sexually assaulted. Police say the investigation led to Kayastha, who allegedly engaged in lengthy and sexually-explicit conversations with the juvenile that included transmission of child pornography.
Police say the doctor allegedly offered drugs, money, and alcohol to the boy, and made arrangements to bring him to a hotel in Seekonk to have sex.
Kayastha is to be arraigned Thursday in Attleboro District Court on charges of possessing child pornography, two counts of disseminating obscene matter to a minor, two counts of electronic enticement of a child for prostitution, and trafficking of a person for sexual servitude.
St. Luke's Hospital released a statement Thursday saying, "we are disturbed to learn of the allegations and arrest of Dr. Sujan Kayastha. The Doctor has been immediately relieved of his duties pending a review of the matter."
Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
