After snagging a top level high school pitching prospect with the 12th pick of the first round, the Boston Red Sox selected a collegiate middle infielder with their second pick of the night, yesterday.

Florida Atlantic University shortstop C.J. Chatham was made the 51st overall selection last night, in the second round by Boston.

After hitting .357 with eight homers and 50 RBI as a junior at FAU, Chatham sparked Boston's interest enough to warrant an early round selection, even though the team has a number of middle infielders in the organization already.

RedSox.com report suggests that the team's director of amateur scouting, Mike Rikard, thinks the 21-year-old has a real chance to stick up the middle in the future.
