For the record, I don't often frequent fast-food restaurants these days. I tend to eat out more now than at any other time in my life, but anything with a drive-thru window doesn't usually make the cut when my wife and I discuss places to dine or even grab a quick bite.

It's not that we are fast food snobs, but fast foods tend to be less healthy for you. Given my age and a few "conditions" to be mindful of, I tend to pass them by.

If we don't have all of the national chains, we at least have all the fast food foods offered everywhere. Pizza, burgers, tacos, fried chicken – we have it all, and not much of it is healthy.

Subway was founded by Fred DeLuca and financed by Peter Buck in 1965 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Subway had very little competition on the SouthCoast – until Jersey Mike's came to town a couple of years ago.

Jersey Mike's, with far fewer locations in the area so far, opened in 1956 in Point Pleasant, New Jersey.

I have eaten sandwiches from both sub shops and each, to my memory, was a positive experience. I do recall Jersey Mike's was more expensive than Subway. did a recent comparison of both sandwich shops, and writer Nancy Luna determined, "Overall, Jersey Mike's had much more expensive but higher quality sandwiches than Subway."

Which sub shop do you prefer, Subway or Jersey Mike's?
