New Bedford Getting Its First Jersey Mike’s Sandwich Shop
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — New Bedford is about to taste a little more like New Jersey, as the city will soon see its first Jersey Mike's open up where another sandwich shop once stood.
Jersey Mike’s is coming to Riverside Landing in New Bedford, in the same building as Little Caesar’s Pizza, Snipes and Great Clips.
Jersey Mike’s told WBSM that franchise owners Chris and Netta Hall, along with their daughter Caroline Simmons, are aiming for a September 4 opening.
The family already owns and operates the shops in Dartmouth, Fairhaven and in Middletown, Rhode Island.
The chain also has SouthCoast area locations in Fall River,Wareham, Bourne, Somerset, Swansea and Raynham.
The site of the future New Bedford Jersey Mike's was once the former Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop, which closed its doors nearly a decade ago.

Jersey Mike’s started in 1956 as Mike’s Subs in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. It expanded through the 1960s and 1970s. In 1975, the entire operation was purchased by Peter Cancro, a 17-year-old high school senior who had worked for Mike’s Subs since he was 14. He purchased the operation with the help of his football coach.
Cancro continued to expand the operation, and in 1987 began franchising under the name Jersey Mike’s Subs.
Their sandwiches are known for being made “Mike’s Way,” with onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and “The Juice,” a signature blend of olive oil, red wine vinegar and spices.
All meats are sliced to order, and the bread is baked fresh daily in-store.
Jersey Mike’s is also known for giving back to the local communities in which its stores are located. During its 14th annual Month of Giving in March 2024, the chain broke its previous record, raising over $25 million to donate to more than 200 local charities.
On March 27, known as the Day of Giving, football legend Doug Flutie visited the Fairhaven Jersey Mike’s shop to meet customers. All New England locations were raising money for the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism.
