Sharik Mendes Enters Plea Agreement in Federal Court

The owner of a New Bedford gym and former Pop Warner Football coach pleading guilty to supplying heroin to area drug dealers has formally entered a plea agreement.

According to The Standard Times, Sharik Mendes entered the agreement in U.S. District Court in Boston Tuesday.

A plea hearing is scheduled for October 5 after a hearing was halted earlier this month because the prosecution submitted an incorrect plea agreement.

The agreement filed this week lists Mendes' offense level as a 26 out of a possible 43, for conspiring to distribute and possession with intent to distribute 600 to 700 grams of heroin. As part of the agreement to plead guilty, prosecutors are asking for a three-level reduction for Mendes, which could possibly give him a lighter sentence.

A federal judge previously warned Mendes that pleading guilty could come with a prison sentence of up to 20 years and fines of up to $1 million.
