The New Bedford School Committee is just five days away from selecting a new superintendent of schools.

Mayor Jon Mitchell says the School Committee will meet Friday evening at 5 to compare notes on the site visits made this week.

A team from New Bedford visited Memphis, Tennessee, where Dr. Kriner Cash worked as superintendent.  A team also visited Attleboro, where Dr. Pia Durkin has been the superintendent for seven years.  The third team is headed to Chicago on Thursday, to check on the performance of Dr. Steven Zrike, the head of a cluster of elementary schools in the Windy City.

Mayor Mitchell is happy with the search and the candidates....

Mitchell says the School Committee will make its selection of a new superintendent on Monday, March 11.
