SANDWICH (WBSM) — The person whose remains were found inside of a burned vehicle in the Cape Cod town of Sandwich has been identified.

According to Cape & Islands District Attorney Robert J. Galibois, the vehicle was in the area of Peter’s Pond in Sandwich in the predawn hours of November 11.

“Upon arriving at the last cottage, the vehicle left the paved road, drove around the cottage and into the woods,” the D.A.’s Office said in a release. “Due to the pitch of the wooded terrain, the vehicle came to a stop leaning on the passenger side.”

Galibois said a fire was ignited as a result of the crash, which ultimately engulfed the entire vehicle and burned the woman inside.

She was identified as Susan Lauber, 86, of Sandwich.

A 911 call was made early Monday morning when the burned vehicle was found in the vicinity of Quaker Meeting House Road. Local authorities arrived and discovered Lauber’s remains inside the burned vehicle.
