SANDWICH (WBSM) — An investigation is underway in Sandwich following a car fire this morning with human remains found inside.

According to Cape & Islands District Attorney Robert J. Galibois, a 911 call was made early this morning when a burned vehicle was found in the vicinity of Quaker Meeting House Road. Local authorities arrived and discovered human remains inside the burned vehicle.

The investigation is now being handled by Massachusetts State Police assigned to the D.A.’s Office and Sandwich Police.

D.A. Galibois “wants to reassure the public that there is no threat to public safety,” according to a release.

No further details have been released at this time.
