A site that has long been known for gaming will soon take a step into the next generation of Massachusetts gambling, as Raynham Park is set to become the home of one of the country’s largest sportsbooks.

The site of the former Raynham-Taunton Greyhound Park will soon become Caesars Sportsbook at Raynham Park, one of only a handful of retail – or brick-and-mortar – sports betting locations in the Commonwealth.

“It’s a 60,000-square foot facility with 38,000 square feet of retail (sports betting), and high-end dining from sushi to prime rib,” said Chris Carney, owner of Raynham Park.

“On the other side will be an upscale pub with 750 seats, and 2,000-person capacity to walk in, stand up. There will be two major bars when you walk in," he said. "Theater seating, 80 to 120-seat dining room. Four private dining rooms. Good stuff.”

Carney said the process is underway of constructing the brand new building.

“It’s up, they’re putting the walls up now, everything’s moving along,” he said.

For now, Carney is hoping to open up temporarily in the old facility in March once sports betting goes live in Massachusetts.

“It’s already built out, we’re just waiting for the gaming commission’s approval,” he said.

From there, he hopes to move operations into the new facility in either June or July.

“Raynham Park is in an excellent location in southeast Massachusetts and will be one of just a few retail sports betting locations in the Commonwealth,” said Eric Hession, President of Caesars Digital.

“It’s great to partner with the Carney family, which has a long history in the community and an exciting vision for a tremendous sports entertainment and pari-mutuel simulcasting facility," Hession said. "We look forward to showcasing the Caesars commitment to world-class experiences through this partnership.”

The sportsbook will feature in-person sports wagering and simulcasts of horse racing, and it will also have a mobile component for when mobile sports betting goes live in the Commonwealth later this year.

Raynham Park has been in operation for over 80 years, initially as a site for greyhound racing until it was outlawed in Massachusetts in 2010. Raynham Park went on to become the home of simulcast racing from across the country.

Carney’s family also owns the Brockton Fairgrounds, and it was announced last year that the fair would likely not be returning since portions of the grounds had been leased out to other entities. The Carneys had previously sought to bring a casino to the fairgrounds.
