PROVIDENCE (WBSM) — A Providence, Rhode Island comedy club is hosting one of the biggest names in standup this spring, but is also warning fans not to purchase tickets from a third-party seller – because they won’t get you in the door.

The Comedy Connection club in Providence will have Matt Rife performing there on the weekend of March 29 and 30 as part of the Little Rhody Laugh Riot comedy festival.

Considering Rife is one of standup’s biggest stars right now, it’s no surprise that all four of his shows at the intimate club are already sold out. However, third party ticket sites are still offering them at exorbitant prices.

And Comedy Connection is calling them out on it.

The club specifically pointed out StubHub as listing tickets for the Rife shows “at grossly inflated prices,” and noted that “they will NOT be valid at the door if you buy them.”

“As stated on our website, the original ticket purchaser must show their ID at check-in, or entry will be denied,” Comedy Connection posted to Facebook, along with a photo of the StubHub ad.

“This is a good time to remind our amazing fans to always be careful when purchasing tickets from any reseller at any venue,” Comedy Connection wrote. “There are a lot of shady sites and people out there looking to take advantage.”

As of this writing, StubHub was advertising “two tickets remaining” for two of the Comedy Connection shows, at a price of $672 per ticket.

The club reminded patrons that “whenever possible, buy directly from the venue” and that if they must be purchased from a third party, they should check with the Comedy Connection’s box office first to make sure it’s a legitimate reseller.

“We hate seeing fans get scammed,” the club wrote.
