Wareham High School was the target of a drug sweep this week.

Twelve K-9 units from several southeastern Massachusetts police agencies conducted a search for illegal drugs Monday. Interim Police Chief Kevin Walsh says no drugs were found during the sweep, which covered the inside of the school and the parking lots with full cooperation from school staff and students.

Walsh says though Monday's sweep turned up nothing, it doesn't mean drugs are not an issue in the school system, but the results are encouraging. In 2011, a K-9 search of the high school resulted in seven students cited for possession of marijuana and 17 indications of illegal drugs throughout various areas of the school.

The K-9 drug sweeps are conducted at least once during the school year in Wareham.
