Pedestrian Killed in Whitman Train Crash
WHITMAN — A juvenile girl has died after she was hit by a train in Whitman on Tuesday night.
A joint statement from Whitman police and fire officials noted that Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority transit police reported the crash at around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
According to the release, a southbound MBTA commuter rail train struck a pedestrian, a juvenile girl, on the tracks.
Whitman police and fire crews responded along with state police, MBTA Transit Police, Hanson Police, East Bridgewater Police and the Whitman Department of Public Works.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her identity is not yet being released, but multiple outlets report that she is believed to have been between 16 and 19 years old.
State police detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and MBTA Transit Police are investigating the crash, according to the statement.
The deadly crash in Whitman came before another fatal train strike involving a commuter rail train in Billerica later Tuesday night.
It also took place after two pedestrians, a man and a child, were hit by a car in the MBTA's Lakeville commuter rail station parking lot earlier that evening.
