MBTA Offers Free Rides on Weekends After 9 PM
BOSTON (WBSM) — For the next five weekends, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority is making all MBTA modes of transportation free after 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, including the South Coast Rail commuter rail routes.
The free Friday and Saturday transportation is the kickoff to the MBTA’s extended service, which adds about an hour to subway lines and eight of the most popular bus routes each night.
Free Subway, Ferry and Bus Routes
In order to encourage riders to take advantage of these routes, the MBTA is making all of its subway lines, bus routes, ferries, commuter rail lines and RIDE trips free of charge from 9 p.m. until the end of service on Fridays and Saturdays on September 5-6, September 12-13, September 19-20, September 26-27 and October 3-4.

If you are planning to head from New Bedford or Fall River to Boston for any upcoming weekend activities such as Red Sox games, concerts, or even just to spend a day in the city, any rides on the Fall River/New Bedford Line will be free after 9 p.m.
Weekend Pass Option for Unlimited Rides
However, keep in mind, you can always purchase a weekend pass for $10, which gives you unlimited rides on all commuter rail lines.

South Coast Rail Late-Night Schedule
There is generally one train leaving from New Bedford each of the free service nights after 9 p.m., and then two to three trains leaving South Station in Boston to head back to New Bedford on Friday and Saturday nights. A complete list of all the trains on the Fall River/New Bedford Line can be found on the MBTA website.
