Patriots Trade Up To 56, select Duke Dawson Out Of Florida
What do you know, the New England Patriots made another trade. This time, the team has moved up from the 63rd overall pick to the 56th, linking on a deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
With the 56th pick the Pats selected Florida defensive back Duke Dawson, whom the team had in for a pre-draft visit.
In exchange for moving up to the 56th spot, the Pats shipped the 63rd overall and 117th overall selections to Tampa.
Dawson, who ran a 4.46 40-yard dash at the Combine, profiles best as a slot corner, according to his draft page.
The senior corner had a strong season last year, holding opposing quarterbacks to a 37.1 passer rating and intercepting four balls, according to NESN's Doug Keyed.
For New England, Dawson fills an obvious area of need, playing in the secondary.
