Patriots Owner Robert Kraft Surprises 105-Year-Old WWII Marine
Longevity medicine is the new rage in healthcare. According to a recent segment on 60 Minutes, the practice "focuses on extending healthspan through preventative care, emphasizing exercise, and preparing for the 'marginal decade' (the final years of life) to delay chronic disease and maintain physical, emotional, and cognitive vitality."
Marine Honored By Patriots
Physical, emotional and cognitive vitality are three things Louis Tanzer knows all about. The Marine from Beverly, Massachusetts learned all about them during his time fighting in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
"Unequivocally the Sweetest" Story You'll Hear All Week
Tanzer recently celebrated his 105th birthday. The milestone birthday was made extra special when the New England Patriots fan received a thoughtful card signed by Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel, Patriots Hall of Famer Andre Tippett, and the entire New England current roster.
“It was a huge surprise,” Tanzer said. “Totally unexpected and greatly appreciated. It meant a lot.”
Incredibly, the team's generosity did not end there.
When Patriots owner Robert Kraft caught wind of the 105-year-old fan, he decided to arrange a video call to the Marine vet. It's safe to say that the team owner was a bit star struck, and was honored to be speaking with Tanzer. “I want you to know you’re my hero,” Kraft told him.
Louis Tanzer's Military Story
Tanzer enlisted in the Marine Corps in his early 20s, enthusiastically serving in the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing even though he was eligible for deferment. Tazner was stationed in the central Pacific, including the Ellice Islands and the Marshall Islands, and also served aboard the USS Altamaha, supporting key operations.

During the call, the two men bonded over their Patriots fandom and Jewish faith. Before the call ended, Kraft revealed one more gift: a custom Patriots jersey with Tanzer’s last name and the number 105.
One More Unforgettable Birthday Gift?
With the Patriots headed back to the AFC Championship this Sunday, Kraft hinted there may still be one more birthday present left.
