According to USA Today's Tom Pelissero, the New England Patriots are planning to cut ties with veteran offensive tackle Sebastian Vollmer. 

was scheduled to make $2.2 million dollars this season. With his recent string of injuries and the emergence of Marcus Cannon, who stepped in for Vollmer last season and played well at the right tackle spot all year long, it appears the team believes that that money could be spent better elsewhere.

Since being drafted by the team in the second round of the 2009 draft, the large German has been a favorite of his coaches, teammates and Pats fans. While releasing the Houston product might leave some in the locker room feeling a bit blue, the business side of the deal seems to be the right move.
