Earlier Story:

DARTMOUTH — Commuters in Dartmouth are going to have to detour around the Padanaram Bridge again.

In a Facebook post Thursday morning, Dartmouth Police say the bridge is closed until further notice “as the result of unforeseen mechanical failure.”

The bridge had been made available to Dartmouth residents again last June following the two-year, $8.27 million Padanaram Causeway Rehabilitation Project.

The bridge was closed again last month for one day of repairs, described by the Dartmouth Department of Public Works as, "electrical modifications.”

The exact cause or circumstances of the mechanical failure have not been disclosed at this time.

This story will be updated.
