Padanaram Bridge and Causeway to Reopen in June [VIDEO]
DARTMOUTH — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has confirmed to WBSM News that the Padanaram Bridge and Causeway in Dartmouth will reopen on June 11.
Leah Epstein, communications assistant for MassDOT, said Highway Division District 5 anticipates having the causeway and bridge reopen June 11, which coincides with the completion date of the construction contract.
"Progress on the project has been hampered by the March nor'easters and unseasonably cold wet spring weather," she said.
The bridge and causeway on Gulf Road, as well as Smith Neck Road, have been closed for nearly two years, shutting down back on July 6, 2016 to undergo the $8.27 million Padanaram Causeway Rehabilitation Project.
The project called for improved roadways, drainage, lighting and structural enhancements along Gulf Road in the area between Apponagansett Park and the Padanaram Bridge, as well as from Smith Neck Road to Gulf Road.
The shutdown also affected area businesses and traffic patterns for the past two summers.
