One woman was pronounced dead and a police officer was hospitalized after an overnight shooting in Bourne.

Bourne Police say they responded to a Round House Road residence at around 2:15 a.m. after receiving reports of multiple explosions and a vehicle fire.

Officers found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames upon arrival at which time police received a report that two people had been shot by a man who fled the area.

As officers were making their way to the residence they encountered the armed suspect.

The Cape and Islands District Attorney's office says the injured officer was shot in the back and police say other officers were pinned down by gunfire from the suspect.

State Police, Falmouth Police, and the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office were among those who responded to the scene and the suspect was eventually taken into custody.

When officers were able to get to the residence where they located two woman who had been shot, one fatally.

The Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad was called in after numerous incendiary devices were found.

The injured officer was Medflighted to an area hospital and the injured woman was also hospitalized.

Roundhouse Road residents are being told it is safe to leave their homes.
