Authorities say one man is confirmed dead in a late night house fire in North Attleborough.

The fire near the center of town was reported at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

The victim was the home's only occupant. His name was not immediately made public.

Fire officials say a heavy fire on the first floor was knocked down within about a half hour, but heavy fire continued on a second floor and was shooting through the roof.

The state Fire Marshal is assisting in the investigation and the cause was not immediately known.

Plainville and Attleboro sent fire engines to the location, and Cumberland, Rhode Island, helped cover the downtown fire station.
