In a last ditch effort to save the town a few bucks, Board of Health candidate Peter DeTerra is calling for an official recount of the ballots from Fairhaven's April 1 election.

DeTerra's opponent, John Wethington, was sworn in before a glitch in the ballot count was uncovered and corrected, making DeTerra the rightful winner by only two votes.

Hoping to avoid a costly do-over of the election, DeTerra filed recount papers today. His attorney, John Markey, says having a winner request a recount is unheard of.

It's unclear at this time whether Wethington will take any legal action, and try to gun for another election. A date for the official recount has not yet been scheduled.
