PROVIDENCE — Lifespan is bracing for a strike by 24-hundred unionized nurses and other health care employees at three o'clock this afternoon at Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children's Hospital.

Contract talks were to resume at 8 a.m. in a last ditch effort to avert the walkout.

Lifespan says that in order to provide quality care, replacement workers are on stand-by. However, union officials say they're concerned about patient care from staff that is unfamiliar with their surroundings.
