A new study completed by the University of Massachusetts' Donahue Institute, says the UMass Dartmouth campus provides a major boost for the state's economy.

The study says UMass Dartmouth contributed $517 million to the Bay State's economy in 2013, and supported nearly 2,500 external jobs. The Unviersity also employs 1,200 staff members and faculty.

Chancellor Divina Grossman says UMass Dartmouth has a powerful impact on the economy by creating construction jobs, and purchasing goods and services from local small businesses.

Programs that aid the economy include the School of Marine Science and Technology, the College of Visual and Performing Arts in Downtown New Bedford, and the Advanced Technology and Manufacturing Center in Fall River.
