New Jersey Suspect in Swansea Child Porn Case Sentenced
SWANSEA — Swansea police are reporting that a New Jersey man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison in connection to a child pornography case involving a Swansea minor.
Police said 25-year-old Nicholas Coffin of West Deptford, N.J. was convicted in a New Jersey superior court of endangering - photographing or filming a child in a sex act.
The charge comes after Swansea police received a complaint from a town resident in October 2020 that a man was trying to coerce and solicit illicit photos from a minor on social media.
An investigation from the Swansea Police Abuse Unit discovered digital evidence of the suspect later identified as Coffin on the social media platform.
Authorities — including Swansea and West Deptford, N.J. police as well as local county prosecutors — executed a search warrant on Coffin's home in January 2021.
After his conviction, Coffin was sentenced to a decade in prison on Aug. 26, and will be eligible for parole in five years.
He will also be subject to a no-contact order and parole supervision for life, and must also register as a sex offender and pay fines and restitution to victims.
"Child pornography and exploitation are heinous crimes. Det. Jonathan Boyd and the Abuse Unit deserve praise for their tireless efforts," Swansea Police Chief Marc Haslam commented.
"I also wish to thank the West Deptford Police Department and Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, who greatly assisted in bringing this case to a conclusion."
