New Director Takes Over At Marion Institute

The Marion Institute, an organization that focuses on sustainability issues, has a new Executive Director.

Janet Milkman began her new job on Monday, after working in the Philadelphia area for 18 years as head of the Delaware Valley Green Building Council.

Milkman tells WBSM News, while she's learning about the Marion Institute and its many community partners, she'll also be thinking about the organization's future.

"We have struggling, older communities and we have cultural and social justice issues, and how the Marion Institute can have impact in helping address them, is really something I'm going to think hard about over the next several months; what's the best role for us to play," said Milkman.

The new Director will be visiting New Bedford on Thursday to check out the Institute's Grow Education program.

The program encourages healthy lifestyles with the construction of garden beds and growing vegetables at several elementary schools.
