New Bedford Woman Sentenced in Fatal Heroin-Induced Crash
FALL RIVER - A New Bedford woman convicted on a manslaughter charge has been sentenced.
The Bristol County District Attorney's Office says 28-year-old April Pimental pleaded guilty Monday in Fall River Superior Court to an indictment charging her with manslaughter by OUI.
In July of 2015, Dartmouth Police responded to an area near Dartmouth High School where a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle. The victim, 77-year-old Hortense Medeiros, died from her injuries two days later.
A toxicology report showed Pimental had a combination of opiates, benzodiazepines, and cannabis in her system. She admitted to police to using heroin earlier that day.
Pimental has been sentenced to serve five to six years in state prison.
