NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — A 17-year-old was arrested this past Monday in New Bedford after police said he was found in possession of a firearm.

According to New Bedford Police, detectives were conducting surveillance in the city’s South End on May 5 targeting street-level drug sales and other criminal activity.

At 6:30 p.m., detectives observed a 17-year-old male known to them to have three active warrants for his arrest. Police said that when detectives tried to approach the boy, he began to run, but eventually was apprehended.

According to police, when placing the juvenile in handcuffs, detectives located a Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum on him, loaded with four rounds of ammunition.

The juvenile was transported to Brockton and ordered not to receive bail. He is charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammo without an FID card, and was also arrested on an outstanding warrant.
