New Bedford Police Arrest Suspect in Taco Bell Shooting
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — New Bedford Police have made an arrest in Thursday’s early-morning shooting outside of the Taco Bell restaurant in the city’s Near North End.
Police were called to the Taco Bell on Coggeshall Street shortly before 1 a.m. on December 19 for a report of shots fired. They arrived to find a man who had sustained injuries that were not life-threatening from a suspect who had since fled the scene.
Detectives were called to the scene, and it was learned that there had been an argument between two women customers and the suspect, which escalated to the suspect allegedly physically assaulting both women before leaving the building.
The victim, who had been waiting in a nearby vehicle, was making his way inside, and as he met the suspect outside, they had words before the suspect allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot the victim.
Police identified the suspect as Pedro Javier Gonzalez Olmo, 31, of New Bedford, who is a licensed gun owner.
Olmo was arrested today by Detective Mohammad Mir and his weapons have been seized. He is charged with assault and battery, assault by means of a firearm, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, and improper storage of a firearm.
