NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — At long last, South Coast Rail is about to become a reality. The commuter rail service connecting New Bedford, Fall River and Taunton to Boston officially launches on March 24 – and with it, your chance to land a job with the MBTA.

An industry briefing and job fair is taking place on Friday, March 14 at the MassHire New Bedford Career Center for those interested in getting a job with the MBTA and Keolis, the company that handles the operations of the trains.

The center is located at 22 Elm Street in New Bedford.

The job fair will kick off at 10 a.m. with comments from Senator Mark Montigny (D-New Bedford), who “initiated the local hiring opportunity in the Spring of 2024 with the MBTA, Keolis and MassHire,” according to his office.

Over 100 job seekers are registered to meet with representatives from the MBTA and Keolis to explore career opportunities.

“I greatly appreciate the enthusiasm of the MBTA, Keolis, and MassHire to embrace my request for New Bedford job seekers to explore career opportunities as conductors, engineers, electricians, sheet metal workers, and much more,” Montigny said.

MassHire said the job fair proved so popular that registration has already been closed for this event, but you can keep an eye on the MassHire website for future upcoming MBTA job fairs for South Coast Rail.

The MBTA website also has a listing of all the currently open positions.
