New Bedford Police Arrest Six in Drug Investigation
New Bedford Police detectives on Thursday seized 10 grams of cocaine, four grams of fentanyl, a loaded Colt .32-caliber handgun, and more than $4,000 in cash while executing a search at a 383 Wood Street apartment.
Six individuals were placed under arrest "as a result of the seizure," according to a media release from police spokeswoman Melissa Bathcilder. She said that Hector Abreu-Garcia, 26, of 21 Warren St. Apt. 1, faces firearms charges, two counts of drug possession with intent to distribute, and a conspiracy charge. Batchilder said that Abreu-Garcia "initially attempted to flee the scene" and that back in 2013 he was found guilty of possession of a firearm without a license. The spokeswoman added that Abreu-Garcia has "posted rap videos on YouTube," one of which depicts "the same pistol believed to have been seized during the incident."
Malik Cannon, 19, of 383 Wood St. on Nov. 5 was charged with two counts of drug possession with intent to distribute and with a conspiracy charge, Batchilder said.
Detective Samuel Algarin-Mojica of the NBPD Gang Unit investigated the case.
