New Bedford Man Arrested on Weapon and Drug Charges

NEW BEDFORD —  Members of the New Bedford Police Department Gang Unit were in an area near 31 Ashley Street when they observed a person in possession of a knife larger than allowed by city ordinances. Further investigation revealed that he was also in possession of a small amount of heroin.

Hernan Ruiz, 40, of Roosevelt Street, New Bedford, was charged with possession of a weapon larger than allowed by city ordinances and possession of heroin.

The arrest was made at 5:21 p.m. on Thursday.
