NEW BEDFORD — A New Bedford man faces multiple charges after committing a hit-and-run in the city’s south end early Sunday morning.

New Bedford Police received a report that a vehicle drove through traffic lights at the intersection of County and Allen Streets, struck and damaged a vehicle and then drove off.  No injuries were reported.

Police located the vehicle on Hall Street and subsequently arrested the driver of the vehicle, 36-year-old Nelson Filipe Sousa, of 44 Fair Street.  Sousa was taken into custody at approximately 1:30 a.m.

Sousa was charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, OUI liquor, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended/revoked registration and driving an uninsured motor vehicle.
